“America’s Ship Is Sinking,” Warns Former Bush Official

Original source: Zero Hedge

“This ship is sinking,” retired U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson tells Abby Martin, adding that “today the purpose of US foreign policy is to support the complex that we have created in the national security state that is fueled, funded, and powered by interminable war.”

The former national security advisor to the Reagan administration, who spent years as an assistant to Secretary of State Colin Powell during both Bush administrations reflects on the sad but honest reflection on what America has become as he exposes the unfixable corruption inside the establishment and the corporate interests driving foreign policy.

“It’s never been about altruism, it’s about sheer power.”

  1. Col. Wilkerson says that U.S. foreign policy has “not always been about altruism, it’s been about power.” [no kidding] He describes it as the “left-overs of the Cold War.” Pres. Eisenhower warned about the military-industrial-complex, but like another great citizen-soldier, George Washington, who had reservations about slavery, but only provided for the freedom of his own in his will, did nothing to curb it in his own administration, and contributed to conflict with U-2 overflights of Russia that amounted to an act of war (and whose findings of Soviet weakness only justified reduced, not increased defense spending.) Obama was elected in large part because of expectations that a Nobel Peace Prize winner would divert spending to domestic needs, but he, too, only increased spending on inflated military assets, leaving us with deficits a multiple of those he inherited.
There should be a truth in advertising law that would require a Congressional district map labeled with the location of every defense contractor every time a polititian appears on T.V.
You will never see one proposed by the MSM-anointed MIC-dependable GOP Presidential candidates, Bush, Cruz, Rubio (and until he withdrew, Graham), and on the Dem side, Mrs. Clinton has received very large contributions from them as well. The one candidate, who like his father has honestly and frankly confronted the issue, Rand Paul, has been marginalized in the press, and branded an “isolationist.”
